About Lee James
I have been working as a theatre critic for 8 years now and have been working as a live performance mentor for 2 years. I work as a writer-director myself and have a theatre & film production company, Broadmai Productions. Whilst I specialise in theatre acting, I am certainly able to offer lessons in acting for the screen too.
Personally, I am interested in helping students to create original and ground-breaking work, whether it be didactic or hedonistic in nature. I am keen to grow students’ confidence so that they can appreciate and fall in love with the artform as I have done, across all of its specificities, peculiarities and modes.
My most notable performance, SHE, focusing on suicide, depression, self-neglect, and self-harm, has been particularly successful, receiving multiple 4* reviews and currently on tour in theatres and, soon, in universities/colleges for drama/psychology students. This performance is particularly noteworthy here, as it aims to be an authentic presentation, rather than a mimetic performance, and has a very particularised performance style, calling for challenging and intensive work in writing, direction and acting.
Additionally, I have over 5 years’ experience in working with children and young adults (ages 0-18) and am also well versed in children’s theatre. I’m more than happy, therefore, to adapt lessons to young aspiring or practicing performers, whether to introduce them to the artform in a fun and light way or to help them prepare for a career in acting.

My lessons take the form of consultations and/or workshops. They can be practical and/or theory-based, refining my students’ existing ideas and methodologies or introducing my students to new techniques, practices, skills and perspectives.
My sessions are adaptable and bespoke, whether it’s developing skills or working on scenes, monologues and audition materials.
My goal on here as well as in my own work as a director is to encourage actor to have a formal and profound understanding of the artform so that they may serve performances well, allow their own creative perspectives to flourish, and truly immerse themselves in and LIVE their roles.
My sessions foster creativity, confidence, accuracy, psycho-physical intellect and self-discipline.
I offer both student-led lessons, where areas of focus are identified by you, and I also offer intensive crash course–type lessons introducing you to various disciplines and methodologies: Stanislavski, Grotowski, Meyerhold, Brecht, Meisner, Demidov, Theatre of Cruelty/Oppressed, etc.
