About Julianne
I am thrilled to introduce my online tutoring class, specifically designed for high school students and adults eager to delve into the world of architecture and design. With over a decade of experience in architecture education and hands-on industry practice, I am passionate about sharing my expertise and fostering a dynamic learning environment. I'm particularly excited about the potential to contribute to the Superprof community. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of serving as a guest critic at prestigious institutions such as California College of the Arts and UC Berkeley Extension. These experiences have sharpened my mentoring skills, enabling me to guide and inspire students navigating the complexities of architecture and interior design. As Vice President of Student Affairs for the International Interior Design Association, I spearheaded a successful mentorship program that connected students with industry professionals, effectively bridging the gap between academia and practice. The operation of my own design firm has deepened my practical experience in every facet of architecture, from conceptual design to advanced project management. I bring this comprehensive understanding to the classroom, offering students valuable real-world insights and preparing them for their future careers. Technically, I am proficient in using advanced tools such as the Adobe Suites, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and architectural drafting software. I will not only teach students the fundamentals of AutoCAD, but how to apply these concepts in the "real world". Here is an outline of a typical lesson plan: Equip students with fundamental skills to create and edit technical drawings using AutoCAD. 1. Introduction Overview of AutoCAD: Brief history and its importance in drafting and design. Learning Objectives: Highlight key outcomes like creating basic drawings and understanding essential commands. 2. Getting Started Software Setup: Guide students in launching AutoCAD and configuring workspace essentials. Interface Tour: Explain basic elements like the Ribbon, Toolbars, Command Line, and Property Panels. 3. Basic Tools and Commands Drawing Tools: Demonstrate line, circle, rectangle, and polyline commands. Editing Commands: Introduce modify tools like move, copy, rotate, and scale. Explain the use of the Undo/Redo options. 4. Creating Your First Drawing Guided Practice: Create a simple floor plan or mechanical part using the drawing and modification tools. Follow step-by-step instructions to ensure students follow along. 5. Precision Techniques Snap and Grid: Demonstrate how to use snapping features for precision. Ortho and Polar Tracking: Teach how these features assist in maintaining accuracy while drawing. 6. Annotation and Dimensions Text Tools: Show how to add notes using the text command. Dimensioning: Explain adding dimensions and adjusting their properties for clarity and precision. 7. Layers and Organization Layer Management: Introduce the layers palette, creating and naming layers for organized drawing. Layer Properties: Explain layer visibility, line types, and color customization. 8. Practical Exercise Assign a project where students apply what they've learned to create a simple, detailed drawing. Offer prompts or templates for guidance. 9. Review and Q&A Recap key commands and processes discussed. Open the floor for questions, troubleshooting common issues, and providing additional tips. 10. Homework/Assignment Assign students to recreate a basic real-world object or small architectural structure, applying learned techniques.
