• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I have always had an interest in teaching. Even during nursing school, I often explained complex topics to my classmates and other nursing students. I genuinely enjoy educating patients and students, and I also value learning from others through these interactions.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I teach nursing subjects such as maternity, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and NCLEX preparation. My favorite area to teach is NCLEX prep because I can share effective test-taking strategies and tips that help students pass their exams and become registered nurses. My least favorite subjects to teach are nursing praxis and medical-surgical nursing, as they are very complex and involve a large volume of content.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Absolutely. I am deeply grateful for my spiritual mothers, friends, and family who supported me throughout nursing school. I am especially thankful for my mother, who stayed up late helping me review and correct my schoolwork.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  A good tutor should be patient, caring, and knowledgeable. It is also important to be teachable, because while we guide students, we are also lifelong learners ourselves.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  One strategy that helped me greatly was creating study maps and mnemonics to break down complex concepts. I also used songs and movement to reinforce learning, which made it easier to remember key information.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

  One of the biggest challenges was managing the heavy workload and vast amount of information in nursing school while maintaining balance and confidence. Learning how to study smarter rather than longer was a skill I had to develop over time.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  Teaching is truly my passion. I love witnessing the moment when students grasp complex concepts. My long-term goal is to teach at the college or university level.

  My superpower is my kindness, patience, and individualized approach. I take the time to understand each student’s goals and learning style, and I create focused study plans tailored specifically to their needs.
