About Luke
An excellent technique will come from a beautiful sense of musicianship. It is often said that musical talent cannot be taught, but if you put your mind to it, I can help you find musical talent. With a strong musical mind, the technique will follow very naturally.
We'll set goals and intentions, and we will work smartly towards these goals. We'll set goals according to your goals, whether that's getting into a music program or school, or if you want to play the violin for friends and family! If you want to take exams or participate in competitions or performances, we'll figure that out as well! I am well acquainted with the RCM and ABRSM curriculums, as well as the Suzuki repertory.
We'll learn about music theory and musicianship in addition to learning the violin, because these are so integral to the making of music. We'll train the reflexes necessary to play the violin, so that with enough practice, you can play the violin naturally without strain or tension.
On top of that, and probably the most important of all, we'll embark on a journey of self-discovery where we will develop many of the characters and personalities which are useful in everyday life, whether you're playing the violin, sitting in class, or at the office!
I have certificates and diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Mount Royal University, and the University of Sherbrooke. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Ian Swensen, under the sponsorship of the Sergei Barsukov Scholarship for Violin
Every student is so different, and the mental and technical blocks they face are very different as well. I find it to be a very interesting challenge to solve the puzzle and help the student make progress.
I've been working as an music educator for almost 5 years now, starting when I was in high school. I have experience working with groups and individuals of all ages and levels. If you are a child and are just beginning, I know how to best get you going! If you are an adult and are just beginning, I know how to make the violin feel natural and enjoyable!
I have a certificate and diploma from the Mount Royal University, as well as the University of Sherbrooke. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Professor Ian Swensen, Isaac Stern Distinguished Chair of Violin.

My daughter had violin lessons with Luke and she has improved so much. We’ve tried a few different teachers now but no one has been as helpful as Luke. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for lessons!
