Derek is such an amazing teacher. When my daughter decided to take viola she was a year behind everyone else in her orchestra class. Originally we were only going to do lessons until she was caught up, but she loved lessons with Derek so much, we continued. My daughter responds very well to his teaching style. He’s gentle when giving constructive criticism. He’s very encouraging when she’s struggling and they love to exchange puns. He’s very flexible with scheduling, as our availability changes, and he’s able to accommodate us virtually currently. I’d highly recommend Derek to anyone looking to improve their violin/viola skills.

As an older student, I find Derek Reeves is committed to the advancement of Violin/Viola students of all levels and ages. His experience, education and professionalism ensure that each student receive individual attention according to the student's skill level. I, personally appreciate that Derek allows me to study the violin at my own pace. As a student I feel Derek is always encouraging. What didn’t I like about working with Derek?? He is a very inspiring teacher that is able to effectively tailor lessons for your individual needs. His knowledge of music and beyond is incredibly expansive, and learning from him is both fun and productive. He is quite intuitive in being able to pinpoint what you need to learn and hear, and he communicates in a way that is clear and concise. Whether you want to learn classical, jazz, or improv, Derek is your guy!

Derek Reeves is a amazing instructor, teacher and performer. Derek is teaching three of my children violin. My oldest has been playing violin for four years. Derek is the source to a perfect performance.

Derek has a keen awareness of the needs of the individual he is instructing. Through professional training and a very kind yet firm demeanor he uses his skills to give positive reinforcement and encouragement focused on the personal needs of each individual student.

I also was grateful for his technology adaptation during vacation and new isolation requirements. It is a privilege and blessing to have his influence in the life of my child and so many others.
