About Alicia
I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Masters Degree in Spanish. My education included courses in Latin American politics, history, literature and culture. I have a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Hispanic Studies from UNC-Wilmington. I lived in Latin America for many years so I have unique insight.
Teaching Spanish became my passion after living in Japan for four years. Some Japanese university student asked me if I could teach them Spanish. After working with them, and seeing they were learning quickly, I realized how rewarding teaching was, and I've been teaching Spanish ever since. For more than 20 years.
In order for my instruction to be the best, I studied new teaching techniques and methodologies. I use a multi-media approach (PowerPoint, CDs and videos) that I think makes learning fun! My students and I talk to each other in Spanish (a lot) during classes. Many of my students like a tailored approach that meets their learning objectives so they can start immediately using what they learn in class in real life.
My students are, Professional, Retirees, College/University, High and middle School-aged, Government, Lawyers, Doctors, etc. I've taught them all! I conduct both Individual tutoring and teach group classes.
My advice to people interested in learning a new language is: Be picky and look for a teacher who has been around awhile and has good reviews/references. Set up an initial meeting to ensure the teacher is someone you will enjoy interacting with. Just because someone is fluent in Spanish doesn't mean they are good at teaching it.

I love it when my students learn Spanish, and feel comfortable understanding and speaking a different language. For example, I recently taught a Spanish Immersion class for 6 hour a day, 5 days a week for 6 weeks. My student learned Spanish very quicky, and after completing the course, he took a Spanish proficiency test for his job, and got a score that exceeded his expectation!!
I became a Spanish teacher by accident. I was living in Japan and some Japanese university student asked me if I could teach them Spanish. After working with them, I realized how rewarding teaching is and I've been teaching Spanish ever since.

I have 20+ years of teaching experience working as an adjunct college professor, Berlitz Spanish immersion instructor and lead instructor for A+Languages where I currently provide Spanish language instruction to business, government professionals, and other students of all ages. Past and current students include Real State Agents, Lawyers, local Business Owners, FBI and Military Officers, college and high school students, retirees, and others interested in learning a second language. I believe, I'm an expert at tailoring instruction to meet my students learning objectives; my teaching philosophy is to use a multi-sensory approach (PowerPoint, Videos, Songs, etc.) that makes learning Spanish fun!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is the teacher qualified to teach the language? Does the teacher have the credentials to teach? Does the teacher have experience teaching?
