I’ve been studying with Harriet through her online course since July 2017. Prior to working with her I had been writing songs on my own with my only feedback being friends and family. I was considering submitting a few of my songs to contests and did some research on the internet to see if that was advisable. In my research I came across an article called, “Songwriting Tip: Dealing With Song Critiques by Harriet Schock.” Harriet’s wisdom made so much sense to me! I started thinking, what if I send them (songwriting contests) what I think are my best songs and I get critiqued by someone who doesn't know what they're doing?! And how would this help me to write consistently better songs, which was and still is my ultimate goal. I also listened to an interview of Harriet in February 2010 called, "Harriet Schock on Songwriting." I thought to myself, this person really knows what they're talking about and has taught the craft. After that I emailed Harriet and she suggested we talk on the phone. Since that phone call I have written five songs using Harriet’s step by step method. I’m currently working on song number six. The feedback I have received from audience members in different venues I have performed has been very positive. People consistently come up to me and tell me, “I like your songs. You tell a story.” Harriet’s method is very structured and it has helped me to write consistently better songs. I learn something new in the songwriting craft with every song I write. Harriet is a very kind person who is positive and encouraging but also honest in her feedback. That works for me because I want to learn how to be a better songwriter and I want honest critiques. I never realized how much “craft” there was to writing a good song until I started to study with Harriet. She has helped me to grow tremendously in my skills as a songwriter. Harriet is an amazing, talented, and kind woman who I am thankful to have as a mentor.

I’ve learned so much working with Harriet. She has a created a system that utilizes steps to completing your song. If you follow her steps, you can’t go wrong. Before studying with her, I had several incomplete songs that I just couldn’t finish. I no longer have that problem. I highly recommend Harriet Schock. You won’t be disappointed!

Harriet has a wonderful system which has helped me not only finish songs ideas that have been in my notebook for up to 30 years, but to continue honing my craft. Her songwriting steps work on every area of songwriting from having a great idea, through fleshing it out, organizing the idea so it makes sense and is logical, creating lyrics that say what you really want to say and melodies that give wings to those lyrics so the song can take flight.
