About Shalee
Shalee has been singing in front of audiences and in choirs since the age of 5. While growing up, she had a crystalline voice with great pitch but encountered a road block when she began auditioning for shows and performance groups as an adult. She found that she lacked the vocal skills to move beyond the audition and, if she was lucky, the callback. She didn't have vibrato, nor a strong voice and lacked sufficient breath control to sing through full phrases. Her confidence sank to new lows with each attempt to audition and perform. Ultimately, Shalee realized that she had to get training to gain the skills that would give her a competitive edge. After raising 4 children, she returned to college switching her original major, Physical Education, to Vocal Performance. While there, she was fortunate to train with an amazing voice teacher. Within a year of returning to college, Shalee was cast in her first musical! That experience gave her the confidence to continue her voice training and building her performance skills. In time, Shalee was cast in many more local, regional and professionals shows. She became a university professor teaching private voice lessons and performance/audition masterclasses. Shalee had always felt that she was a "jack of all trades, master of none"...Not any more! She loves passing on the skills she learned and developed as a student and as a teacher. She is thrilled to see the "light bulb" turn on when her students experience vocal discoveries and gain confidence in their skills. Shalee specializes in the female voice.
In high school, Dave was playing viola in the orchestra pit for Fiddler on the Roof. At the first rehearsal, Dave's attention kept drifting to the action on stage. He realized he too wanted to be up on the stage, not in the orchestra pit. Dave couldn't sing but wanted to be a singer and perform in his high school shows. He left playing in the pit, and auditioned for the next show. He was cast in the chorus, but soon after was asked not to sing out loud because he sang off pitch. It was a painful yet honest moment that prompted him to find a voice teacher. Dave eventually became a music major obsessed with learning to sing. He landed professional jobs performing as a singing waiter, theme park singer/dancer, singing backup at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and ultimately, singing in and directing opera. He is now a voice professor at a major university sharing his love of music and teaching students music theory, vocal pedagogy and private voice lessons. Dave specializes in the male voice which includes the prebuscent male voice.
I love seeing the switch turn on when students realize that the adjustments in technique actually produce a desired sound, quality, or technical skill.
Upon completion of my bachelors degree and having directed private, school and church choirs, I began teaching voice privately. I also became interested in creating programs in high schools and college. Thus, I began teaching at Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts and University of Utah musical theater program.
I have a Bachelor of music and a master of music in vocal performance with an emphasis on language diction. I have been teaching for over 15 years. My husband and I have a private studio called Gottasing Vocal Studios. I am a cofounder of Salt Lake school for the performing arts and the University of Utah musical theater program. I have been a teacher in the musical theater program for over 11 years.

I recommend that we meet in a free consultation either in person or online via zoom. We can then decide if we are a good match. I begin each lesson with warm-ups that are geared toward specific techniques for the week. We then work on music chosen for that month or preparation for auditions or performances. I teach three lessons a month and the last week of the month is a group master class with other students from my studio.
I have worked with all ages and skill levels. I teach a foundation of healthy technique and vocal styles.
Make sure that a potential teacher has the training and knowledge of the vocal anatomy and physiology - Song knowledge is not enough. A good teacher will be able to teach you healthy vocal technique and habits to enjoy a long singing life. The teacher shoukd also have the skills to bring out the best in your student and have the skills to prepare students for performance and auditioning.
I have enjoyed watching my students getting accepted into university programs across the nation this year. I have also had fun watching my students getting cast as lead characters in shows.

Details
I offer 45 minute Lessons for $75 a lesson and 30 minute lessons for $60 a lesson. Each month of lessons consists of three lessons and one masterclass with other students from my studio. I invoice my students via Square and tuition is due by the 10th of each month.
