About Cody

I provide highly customized training specifically for you and/or your family, and have provided life-saving skills training to over 1600 people.
I specialize in working with victims of violent crimes, sexual assault, and domestic abuse as a contractor through the 4th Judicial court.
Additionally, I have designed special training for military servicemen, workshops for businesses and created highly tailored abduction prevention training for individuals traveling outside the US.

I enjoy building up people's capabilities, reducing their fears, increasing their confidence, and helping them rebuild after trauma.
I myself was nearly killed at age 7, held at knifepoint by a co-worker in my early 20's and I know first hand the negative impact of violence on a person's life and mental health.
A Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Physical Security Measures and is trained in Special Program Security Certification (SPSC) to the level of SPSC2 through Center of Development of Security Excellence (CDSE), Cody has also held a Basic Pistol Instructor Certification through the NRA. His focus emphasizes Conflict Resolution, Stress Management Strategies, and Emotional Intelligence Development.
Cody’s other company How We Interact Matters is also an Authorized provider of training for the Bureau of Justice Assistance National Training and Technical Assistance Center under the U.S. Department of Justice.
He has over 74 certificates of training from credible agencies such as the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Security Services (DSS), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), providing him with knowledge in counterintelligence (CI), Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), Physical Security Measures, Facility Vulnerability Assessment, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, Counter-Terrorism and Workplace Violence.
Cody also has certifications as an instructor through the American Red Cross in First Aid/CPR/AED, Basic Life Saver (BLS), and Emergency Medical Response (EMR).
In 2016-2017, Cody volunteered as a Public Safety Instructor for Colorado Springs Police Department through the Community Advancing Public Safety (CAPS) program, as well as a CERT instructor for the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management.
In 2016 he developed a Realtor Safety course which was approved for professional CEU’s through Colorado Department of State’s DORA Regulatory Agency.
In 2018 Defense Education received its first government contract with the 4th Judicial District to provide safety training to victims of violent crimes.
Cody specializes in the modified application of military concepts, social skills, and leadership training, focused on improving the safety, security, and quality of life of the trainee. These concepts emphasize body language training, stress reduction, problem-solving, mental toughness, misdirection and other techniques to accomplish goals in unusually challenging and stressful environments.
His primary focus is to increase public safety within the community by offering both specialized and customized training, providing techniques simple enough for untrained civilians to use effectively. The desired outcoming being a significant increase in safety through risk mitigation and improved quality of life by establishing a lower level of unresolved conflict in their day to day social interactions.

I have an initial phone call or in-person meeting, I access their needs, and together we access if the services I provide are a good fit.
Once I am hired, I then build a custom-tailored training plan specific to their capabilities and desired approach to safety.
I then spend a ratio of 1:1 hour outside per hour training, refining the curriculum and if needed producing content specific to your needs!
