About Nick
Hi! My name is Nick Muellner, and I am a recent graduate of Lawrence University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. As a performer, I am well versed in both jazz and classical, as well as many other genres. I am also a dedicated improviser in many genres other than jazz. As a student, I was the lead tenor player in the two time Downbeat award winning Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble. I have spent my time in various chamber groups, wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz groups, world music groups, and improvisational groups. Though I love performing, my passion is teaching, and I am open to teaching any skill level.
I started teaching lessons to students when I was in high school. Ever since then, I've been dedicated to becoming a better musician and teacher.
I studied classical and jazz saxophone under Steven Jordheim and Jose Encarnacion, both are legends in their fields. I have also studied improvisation under Matt Turner, Bill Carrothers, Mark Urness, and Tim Albright (who you can find on Bon Iver's latest album). I have recieved education from great teachers, but I have also been taught how to teach, which is as if not more important than performance itself.
