About Scott
Scotty is a professional physical scientist with a bachelor's degree in Geology and two masters degrees in Physics and Geology.
The physical sciences are not only a professional interest of mine, but also a life-long passion. I love to learn and explain how things work in the physcial world - why is gravity 9.8 m/s2? how is it that we can know the speed of light down to such a precise number? how, where, and why do mathematics fit into the scientific world? I love pondering and engaging students about these questions.
In addition to 20 years of professional experience, I am also an accomplished course instructor, having taught geophyscial methods and machine learning architecture to professionals and students alike. I have a total of 12 years classrom intstruction experience and thrive on knowlefge transfer.
I am conformtable and enthusiastic tutoring in anything from basic physics to advanced quantum mechanics; I am also proficient in Python and other scientific programming languages.
My absolute passion is helping people understand the nuances of the scientific world and how they apply to our day-to-day life. My teaching style is engaging and relevant, using relatable metaphors to describe scientific principles.
My absolute favorite part of the job is seeing the proverbial light bulb go off.
When I was a freshman in undergraduate school, I begain tutoring local high school students in science and mathematics. Throughout the rest of my life I have always been involved in teaching and knowledge transfer to some capacity.

Tutoring begins with an assessment of the student's current skill set and identificaiton of motivators. Each student receives a personalized and agile lesson plan that aims to reinforce strengths and cover knowledge gaps. Depending on the student's learning style, tutoring will continue with a combination of discussion, written, and oral exercises. Practice tests are also customized to the student themselves to bring the best value and highest satisfaction.
I have worked with students from the Elementary School level to Graduate School and post-graduate level.
Seek a teacher that demonstrates a good balance between knowledge and patience. Impatient tutors are not worth the money and typically offer substandard services.
I recently had the opportunity to visit my child's school classroom and talk about how the earth works in terms of plate tectonics, rotation around it's axis, and orbit around our sun. The experience was extremely reqarding and all the kids had a blast!
