About Louis

I am a marketing Ph.D. student who has tutored and mentored students from high school to doctoral-level programs. I am passionate about education, and I believe that everyone can learn once you figure out a) what excites the student, and b) how the student effectively learns.

I received my bachelor's in marketing at Northern Illinois University, where I tutored and mentored students throughout my 4-year program. During my bachelor's, I received two awards, one in sales education, and another in academic achievement. I went on to receive my master's in computer information systems from Northern Illinois University the following year, before moving to Louisiana to start and finish my doctorate.

I have traveled around the world presenting my research in marketing, while also educating others on the work that I do in sales research. Given my career in academia thus far, I have taken math, science, and computer courses; therefore, I consider myself well versed in several areas to teach from.

I look forward to working with you. Thank you for your time.

Teaching became a passion of mine late in my undergraduate career. I thought I was going to be a salesman, and so I took a door-to-door job where I was quite successful in teaching the customer about the product.

However, after about two years on the job, I decided I would rather teach and mentor. So I transitioned into the classroom and, I am working on my Ph.D. to do so.

I have received my bachelor's in marketing from Northern Illinois University. I also have received my master's in computer information systems from Northern Illinois University.

Currently, I am working on my Ph.D. in marketing at Louisiana Tech University. These three degrees will lead me into a career of research and teaching, which I believe qualifies me to tutor students from various backgrounds.

I like to form an understanding of what the student has done to learn the material in the past. This will give me a good understanding of what worked and what did not.

From there, we can focus on the material and break down where the roadblocks are. I am a big proponent about forming a solid base of learning before building up knowledge. I believe if students understand the material, they will never have to cram and memorize.

I started my teaching career by volunteering and working with special needs students during my senior year of high school. I then worked with both high school and college students, tutoring through various partnership programs while completing my undergraduate degree.

I now tutor both math and statistics at the college level on a weekly basis at Louisiana Tech University.

Talk with the tutor before you commit any time to this partnership. Working with a tutor is not just about receiving the answers; it's learning the material and learning how to think critically.

In the long-run, the answers will not help you in life, but learning how to think and process information is what companies pay for and what will make you successful.

So, you need to be sure the person you are trusting to tutor you, has the skills necessary to help you achieve your goals.

Being a first-generation college student, obtaining my bachelor's and master's degree is a dream come true for me. I am looking forward to earning my Ph.D. in a few years.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would be honest with yourself about your level of understanding of the material, then ask the tutor about their level of patience and expertise in the subject matter.

The last thing you want is a tutor who gets frustrated when you don't know something or you don't understand the material the way the tutor does. So be sure to get a feeling for the tutor's personality, and level of honesty before committing to hiring this person.

1. How well do you know _____ subject?

2. How much time do you have to commit to lessons given that I know about _____% of the material?

3. I consider myself to be _____ confident in the material, do you think you would be okay walking me through this course?
