About Christopher

I have tutored all sections of both the ACT and SAT as well as many other subjects for over five years and have logged over 3,000 tutoring hours as well as over 650 five star ratings through other tutoring services. Some of the other subjects I tutor are: SHSAT/TOEFL/GED, Statistics, research paper writing, Geometry, college essay writing, Algebra I & II, English, probability, study skills and have helped students with a wide range of learning disabilities.

I tutor because I love the challenge of helping people understand new ideas and enjoy making it fun for them. I also like the flexibility that it gives me to pursue my other interests including filmmaking and surfing.

I enjoy the people, the students are what make the work interesting and fun. Every person is unique and has their own perspective so learning is always a little bit different for each person. It is rewarding to see students get a concept for the first time and as I build a repor with them this becomes easier and easier as well as more fun!

I started teaching MS Excel because I had worked in it for five years. I was having fun with it so I decided to branch out, the first step was statistics which is related to Excel. From there I went back and taught myself the SAT/ACT because they are challenging and becaus they have so much demand. From there I have continued to branch out and expand what I can teach.

I have a degree in Economics and worked professionally in MS Excel for five years. I have also taught in classroom settings and tutored standardized testing for over five years.

I start by asking what the student's goals are and how they see their challenges. I talk with them about a plan and what that plan would involve and make sure that they agree, that it makes sense and that they are committed. Over the course of many lessons I assign homework and track the students progress so that they are motivated by that. For each concept I teach, I try to explain it as simply as possible and find an approach that is easiest for them to understand.

I have worked with every type of student imagineable. I have worked with students with learning disorders randing from ADHD to Autism. I have worked with students as young as six and over sixty. I have worked with students desperate to finish a project and others just learning for fun. Diversity is what keeps tutoring interesting and exciting for me.

I recently had a student who had a 26 on the ACT and who had a goal to be somewhere in the 30's. The student worked every day on their own as well as twice a week with me and was very determined. They managed to get a 35, far exceeding their expectations and was accepted early decision. It was great to be able to give them the tools they needed and amazing to watch them take them and run with them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my goals? How much work am I willling to put in on my own and how important is this to me? Have you tried to write out what you are having trouble with, can you clearly describe the problem area?
