About Collin
I started after being requested to by a parent from when I was a counselor at Epsilon Camp. Since then I have expanded over time, since I find it a fulfilling use of my skills.
I have been a private tutor for 5 years. Additionally, I have been a counselor at Epsilon Camp, a math camp for highly gifted children 7-11, and an instructor at Na Martial Arts, a taekwondo studio where I worked with children 5 and up.

I'll usually start by asking the student or parent what they would like to do - I'll start with whatever goals or methods they prefer. If there isn't anything specific, I'll attempt to figure out the student's method of learning while trying a few different strategies. I may do one example, then ask the student to do a similar one, I may break down the problem into steps and work on mastering one at a time, or I may create a scenario that applies the concept in an intuitive way. These are just examples - the method I try next will be based on how the student responds to the previous one.
I've worked with students of ages from 5 to 16. I've managed very energetic students, unenthused students, distractible students, and attention seeking students. I would say I work best with students interested in excellence, particularly in mathematics, but I have experience in all areas.
It's important to remember why you're learning. Mathematics has some really amazing applications, both because they're interesting and because they're very useful. Remembering that can make the learning less boring, or more fun!
When something clicks and I've helped someone really understand a concept, and truly make a breakthrough, it gives me all the motivation I need to teach. Recently, a student of mine did this, and then aced a test right after - that's the greatest thing for a tutor to see.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
In a one on one situation, the main question is "do I already know this?" There are nearly no concerns that aren't worth listening to - as long as it's not actively hurting your learning.
