About Dylab
As a college undergrad, I am well-knowledgeable and well-versed in high school and college curriculum. I understand the struggles of the "Common Core" school material that many other "older" tutors may not know and I'm able to specifically tailor to those requests. I graduated top of my class in high school and aced every AP class and exam. I received a Scholar-Athlete award every year for maintaining a 4.0 and above every year.
In school, I studied very hard to achieve the grades that I desired. However, most of my learning came from outside of the classroom environment. Many of the subjects I've learned throughout these didn't come from books or teachers, but others (peers and tutors) who were willing to teach me from their own personal experiences. Now, I want to pass on the knowledge I've received to others that deserve that same help.
When I first started middle school, every academic subject was brand new to me and was quite overwhelming. I remember going to the library to meet up with the peer-tutors every day after school for the first month of 6th grade to catch up to my other classmates. The pride and happiness I had when I had finally accomplished that goal made me believe that tutoring was the best way to go and was something that I believed every student who needed help deserved. From then on, I dedicated most of my spare time to helping other students get the education they deserved.
I have been tutoring in Oakley, California since I was in 6th grade. Over the years, I've learned what separates learning a topic vs. understanding a topic and how to improve other academic abilities. Currently, I am a sophomore undergraduate that still helps my fellow peers! The seven years of experience under my belt has allowed me to better comprehend the invaluable relationship between a tutor and a student.

With every new student, I like to give them time to introduce themselves and tell me about how their school year has been. This usually gives me a proficient overview of the subjects that they may have difficulties in and what topics we should cover. The main goal of working with a new student is to make sure that they are comfortable with me and the lesson plans/structures that I have in mind. When students become more comfortable with me and my lessons, it is easier for them to learn and understand the subjects proficiently.
I have mainly worked with middle school and high school students mainly with mathematical and literary subjects. I teach "Pre-Algebra to Calculus" and "Language and Composition to Literature and Composition". I have also helped many students prepare for the SAT and ACT tests.
To any new student looking for a tutor, I would make to ask them as many questions and comments as you can for them. It is their job as a tutor to provide you a clear understanding of the material you want to know and it is your right constantly ask for clarity. Do not be shy and tell them you understand the material when you don't. As a tutor myself, tutors pride themselves when they are able to really help the students that they are working with. It is your time and money that you are spending and you shouldn't waste it.
With COVID-19 present today, I am very fond of the ability for students today to learn from remote, online learning. This gives the opportunity for students to learn at their own pace and at any time they need. While the teaching of the materials may not be expressed in the best manner, I believe with my help, online learning and tutoring will be made much easier for my students to comprehend and knowledge becomes an easier tool to access.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There are no questions that students should bottle up before asking questions to their tutors. No questions are stupid questions. Really. If there is anything troubling you or bothering you, it is better to let it all out so both the tutor and yourself better understand one another and can help each other with the problem.

If possible, my standard pricing system ranges from $50 to $80 per hour. However, in some special cases, I may even opt for a lower payment. I personally believe that you shouldn't have to pay an extraordinary amount of money for learning. For new students, whatever you can pay, I will understand.
