About Declan
My name is Declan and I am a senior at Johns Hopkins University (Ranked among Top 9 in the U. S.) studying Economics & Mathematics. I am a collegiate Cross Country/Track athlete and I have had work experience at top companies including SpaceX (Supply Chain Analyst - building spaceships). I have also had two years of tutoring experience at the Allegro Charter School of Music, for English, Mathematics and Jazz Guitar
As a tutor and a student, my approach to learning has always focused on creating a genuine interest--which often requires relating ideas of real-world situations. I hope that I can be much more than a tutor, but also a mentor for students who feel stuck and uncertain about their classes and future goals.
Having also played guitar for the past 7 years, and as a guitarist in the Johns Hopkins Jazz Band (competitively selected) I also have had experience teaching Guitar Fundamentals and Music Theory.
I love sharing my passion for learning! I think that teaching can be very rewarding and I feel very grateful to be in a position to help students succeed.
I began teaching when I first volunteered to help tutor youth at the Allegro Charter School of Music in Charleston, SC. I have a real passion for helping students find motivation in learning and given our current education system in the U.S. I really wanted to bring fresh perspectives to students who may feel overwhelmed by their coursework.
I have had 2+ years of experience tutoring at the Allegro Charter School of Music, focusing on Math, English, Spanish, and even Jazz Guitar/Music Theory.

I typically try to accomodate each student for their unique learning preferences, but my approach to teaching has always been focused on creating geniune interest and a fun learning environment. I am very patient with my students and my main goal is always to share my excitement for subjects that can help open so many great opportunities later in life.
I have worked with both middle school and high school students!
Look for a teacher who can convey their passion for learning. When I was in school, I always felt I responded best to teachers who were enthusiastic about their work and truly cared about their student's success, especially outside the classroom.
Training and qualifying for the NCAA National Championship for Track (Distance Running). I was awarded All-American for finishing among top 20 in the country!
