About Janna
Hi! I'm Janna, and I'm a supervisor in the tutoring center at Ohio University, where I have worked for two years. I love tutoring, because I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to excell in school. As a tutor, it is my job to assist people in their journey to concept comprehension and academic success.
I enjoy doing things for others, whether it be through my work as a volunteer service dog trainer, cooking for friends and family, or tutoring. It gives me a purpose, so I do everything I can to be the best I can possibly be at it.
I'm currently a junior at Ohio University studying Integrated Mathmatics Education. I have worked at OU's tutoring center for two years and have been a supervisor for one year.

When I enter a session, I like to set goals for the tutoring session with the student. I let my students lead the session, telling ME what they're struggling with, so they get the most out of their time and come out of the session with their questions answered and confusion alleviated.
I have worked with college, high school, and middle school students, as well as students with special needs.
Have sessions with multiple tutors until you find one you click with. You want to make sure you have a tutor you mesh well with, so you can get the best experience out of tutoring.
This spring semester, I tutored a student once a week for three months. After finals were over, she sent me this email thanking me for helping her get a good grade in her Pre-Calculus class. I was very appreciative of her for taking the time to thank me.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about why they want a tutor and communicate that to their tutor in the first session. Setting goals is crucial, so it is important to think about long term goals, as well as short term goals (such as what you want to learn in an individual tutoring session).
