About Stephen
I am good at making complicated things simple, because I'm a simple person!
I like helping students learn to enjoy their subjects.
I got started tutoring in college for some spare cash, and found I liked it!
I have bachelor's degrees in chemistry and physics, and a master's in chemistry, as well as 3 years teaching and tutoring while in college and one year tutoring individually after college.
I got a 33 on my ACT and have experience tutoring for the ACT.
While my degrees are in the sciences, I am probably better at written language, and love teaching grammar and writing.
I sang in a university choir on a choir scholarship for 4 years as undergraduate, including vocal lessons.

I start with a bit of relationship-building and discussing how the student learns well, as well as where they are at in the material. Relationship building may seem unnecessary, but I find if a student trusts me not to look down on them, they are more likely to admit when they do not understand something, which makes teaching much easier.
I have worked mostly with students between their senior year of high school and sophomore year of college (organic chemistry)
1. Find someone who is not in a hurry to "get through" everything, but cares to make sure you understand before moving on.
2. Find someone who knows how to make things that seem complicated simple. Calculus, for example, is really quite simple if you let it be. If someone knows the material well, they can explain it simply. (Unless, of course, they're too smart for their own good)
One student I currently tutor got her ACT score from a 29 up to a 32, including bringing her English score from a 25 to a 32!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is this in my notes? :) if not, is there something else I've been taught that could help me know how to solve this?
