About Efe
I am a strong believer in the strength and beauty of diversity as I was born in Ghana, West Africa, but grew up and resided in the United Arab Emirates. My experience as an immigrant and international student have allowed me to appreciate diversity, while contributing to it with my diversity. I am therefore able to adapt and be creative to meet the needs of my diverse group of students.
I also define Math as the study of patterns and relationships and therefore teach students to notice those patterns, describe them and generalize them in order to deepen their knowledge of various Math concepts. Math is not just about finding an answer but about the process of thinking and deriving. This helps me create lessons that engaged students in inquiry and discovery, thus actively developing students’ problem solving skills.
I want to be a support to students, like my family and teachers were to me. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
I enjoy working with the students and watching as they become more and more confident in their Mathematical Skills. I believe everyone is a Mathematician and is born with the ability to study patterns and relationships. I therefore love to be a support in encouraging Mathematical freedom through creative thought.
As a child, Math was a struggle for me. I adopted a false belief that I was not a Math person and held onto that belief quite strongly. Fortunately, with the support of my family and Math teachers, I eventually let go of that belief and came to realize that every person, including myself, is in fact a Math person. I have grown to love and enjoy Math and see struggle not as a disadvantage but as a step stool to success. My experiences with Math are what motivated me to become a Math teacher and tutor.
In college, I was inducted into the Math honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon, was awarded a scholarship for Outstanding Women in Math and Statistics and graduated Cum Laude with a double major in Mathematics and Management Information Systems, and a minor in Computer Science. I have been a Middle School Math teacher now for 5.5 years and have been tutoring Math on and off since high school.

Since tutoring is mostly individualized, before beginning any sessions, I like to meet virtually with the student and the student’s parent(s) to assess the student, and establish clear expectations and learning objectives. This allows me to effectively differentiate session plans, and guide students to form deeper understandings of various mathematical concepts. Sessions can include concepts from elementary math, prealgebra, algebra I or II, geometry, trigonometry, or calculus.
I have had the opportunity to work with Students of various diverse backgrounds. Some of my students over the years have been highly mobile, come from struggling situations, are Multi-Language Learners or have been students with special needs. I have gained various skills for differentiating lessons.
