About Zoe
I have been a licensed high school teacher for 8 years and have taught everythin from Algebra 1 through Calculus. I have tutored middle school students all the way through graduate level students. As a teacher I strive to help students relate to math through real world applications. For example, I connect trigonometry and the unit circle to a speedometer of a car. Also I pride myself on using many different teaching techniques, allowing students to learn math in their own way. I also have a good understanding of the education system as a whole and can help students with study techniques, test taking strategies and test prep (such as SAT or ASVAB).
I love working with students of all levels. To me there is nothing more satisfying than a student understanding math and being able to make the connections between different topics, concepts and real world applications.
When I graduated college I went to work at a boarding school as an equestrian coach and a math teacher. I fell in love with teaching and decided to go back to school for my masters to continue my teaching career.
I have a BBA from William and Mary in marketing with a minor in mathematics.
I have a masters in Math Education from Old Dominion University.
I have been a high school teacher for 8 years and am currently licensed in VA, MA and CA.

At the first meeting we go over what the student is looking to get out of tutoring and their goals. We discuss their strengths and weaknesses and how the course they are currently taking is structured. After that we come up with a plan based off of homework, assessments and extra problems provided by me to help them achieve their goals.
I have worked with a variety of levels, including an inclusion class, general eduation classes and honors classes. I have taught many students with IEPs and very different goals in their studies and future plans.
Find a tutor that you click with and who is used to working with students at your level.
I am fond of the fact that my former students keep in touch with me. I just had a student reach out to me and let me know that she plans to become a math teacher and asked me to write her a recommendation.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what their strengths and weaknesses are in their current math classes and past ones. They also should think about what they are hoping to get from their tutoring sessions and what their overall goal is.
