About Hrithik

I can make you understand math in a 'learn-by-doing' way. We can start from an intuitive approach to math, then go on to building proficiency in solving the problems asked in tests. This context-based approach will definitely make you more involved in math (if you allow yourself) and you will learn quicker.

When I was in High School (about 2 years ago), I was preparing for a competitive entrance exam (called IITJEE) of India and that made me become "fluent" in math. It gradually became my favourite subject so much so that I often skipped the work of other subjects and solved math. I can also tell you that it matters very little what grade you are in, or which era you live in, the essence of Math remains same- be it Newton, Leibnitz, Me, You, or any Alien!

I helped my siblings and friends with their math problems since I was in grade 7. Over time, I think I have become good at communicating the ideas of math. The best method I know of and appreciate is the Socratic method of Teaching Math i.e. asking the right questions and letting the student come up with the answer, instead of the conventional approach of dictating the method of solving the problem and expecting the student to solve it with that method.

At present, I want to become financially independent and spending time with maths, getting to know someone else's thinking, helping them improve their skill, and most importantly the way they see math and being paid for all of this is a great incentive for me.

I was ranked in the top 30 (globally) in the IMO by SOF. I have also qualified many national competitive exams such as KVPY. I have spent countless no. of hours solving complex math problems on platforms like Brilliant. I have also helped my siblings and friends in their math problems which developed some teaching skills in me.

I have studied many areas of university maths such as Sequences and Series and Advanced Calculus during my IITJEE preparation and afterwards in my free time. I have also studied Linear Algebra by myself and used it on MATLAB. I am currently a first-year university student of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science; so I get to study these ideas, apply them and refine my understanding of math each day.

First, I would like us to introduce each other. Then, I would like to know which specific areas of math do they struggle with (if at all).  Then, I would like them to ask me the questions of math that intrigue them the most. Then, depending on their level of familiarity with math, I would tell them some of the interesting applications of math in our world and the beauty of some of the ideas/ theorems/ equations of maths.

After this is over, and we get familiar with each other, we start working right away on the student's needs.

Hey! You would be my first student.

My advice is a no-brainer. It only requires the ability to observe.

1. Decide what qualities you are looking for in your tutor

2. Only hire the tutor who fulfils all their criteria.

About five years ago, I came across a formula given by Ramanujan that totally blew my mind! Here it is:

1 + 2+ 3 + 4 +... = -1/12

In other words, the sum of natural numbers up to infinity is a negative fraction!

A few days ago, I finally understood the reason he gave this formula.

And, this gave me some peace and joy.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. They should 'specifically' identify their weak areas (if at all they have one). Is it Algebra? Is it Trigonometry? Or Calculus? Or Coordinate Geometry?

2. Then, they should know what are the skills they are looking forward to improving: Is it the speed of solving the problem? Is it the ability to comprehend the problem clearly? Is it the ability to think and relate? Is it the accuracy of their answers? Or, anything else.

3. Then, decide the qualities they want in their tutor. When they find a suitable tutor, they can follow the 5-Step Process in each and every step of their 'maths journey':

1. Have Clear Goals

2. Identify the Problem

3. Diagnose

4. Design a Plan

5. Push through to Completion
