About Jacob
I one of a select few of Judo instructors in the US to be certified by the International Judo Federation. I have been teaching Judo since 2001. I teach Judo for self-defense and competition (Judo, Jiu Jitsu, and MMA).
The second school I trained in needed an assistant instructor for the children's program. I started as an assistant instructor in 2000 and took the class over in 2001. I started cross training Jiu Jitsu players in 2003 and MMA fighters in 2006.
I am a 2nd degree black belt in Judo.
I am a certified coach through USA Judo and the International Judo Federation.
I am a national Judo referee.
I am CPR, AED, and First Aid certified, and take courses in athlete safety about once a year.

First and foremost, I need to work with you to know where you are and where you want to be. Are you a skilled fighter wanting to cross train in Judo for Jiu Jitsu or MMA competition; are you looking into martial arts for the first time to learn how to defend yourself; or perhaps you are needing to reset your life and are seeking the benefits martial arts training to help you develop courage, increase your focus, or help you manage stress. While this will be your individual journey, I'll be there to walk beside you and guide you through it.
I have worked with students ranging from children with autism to professional MMA fighters to elderly business professional looking to get in better shape and reclaim some of their youth.
Find out how long they have been practicing their Martial Art and how long they have been teaching their Martial Art.
Find out if they are using a proven system.
Find out what their promotion policy is. For some instructors, this is a revenue generation system, not an acknowledgment of your knowledge.
I had an autistic student in my college program who was not athletically gifted and was somewhat reserved. Not only did he learn to face his fears and enter competitions, but his comfort in social situation improved and he found the courage to participate in theatrical events.

Are you looking for flashy moves or efficient effective moves?
Basically, are you looking for techniques that look good in a movie or that have been proven in combat? Both are ok, as longs as they are what you are wanting to learn.
