About Erika
History is my passion! I have been studying social studies for years, having completed my BA in history and MA in global history. I have presented research at multiple scholarly historical conferences and I was a semifinalist for the prestigious Fulbright scholarship. I am also a member of the Phi Alpha Theta national historical honor society. I maintained a 4.0 GPA in my masters studies, focusing on Latin American and world history topics. I read historical works, fiction and non-fiction, in my spare time; I value informing myself in current affairs and those of the past. I can't wait to help others better understand and appreciate social studies topics such as history and government!
I have both a bachelors degree in history and a masters degree in global history. I worked as a graduate assistant for two years, teaching an online course at the university level.

I like to begin by talking with students to figure out where exactly they are in the learning process and where they need th emost help. Then, I like to take a short period of time to formulate a learning experience especially for that student, utilizing methods such as flash cards, supplementary reading materials, key term focus, lecture, photos, and videos to help the student learn.
I have worked with various ages of college students, ranging from freshmen (18-19 years old) to nontraditional students returning to college for their degrees. I also have experience teaching teenagers.
I would advise a student to hire a history teacher who LOVES the topic. Social studies are so important, but many people find them to be boring and uninteresting. If you have a teacher who is passionate about the topic, it will be so much more interesting for YOU! This has been my experience with all topics throughout my life...learning is so much more fun if you are learning from someone who loves what they do.
