About Mark
I am extremely excited about watching the joy come on a student's face as they begin to achieve their goals, and begin the climb of mastering the guitar.
I have been a professional studio musician and a performing guitarist for decades. I have played guitar on stage with the likes of jazz great Nelson Rangell and have had my music recorded by some of the best studio musicians in the world.
My teaching style is very relational in that I think there is a great balance which must be established between learning rote exercises and learning what the student is excited about. Learning guitar should be both fun and challenging at the same time, and if it becomes just one or the other, it will hinder the learning process altogether.
I was a worship leader in my church, and began teaching interested parties back then, in the early 90s.
I have been an independent and professional studio musician/guitarist/performer/guitar teacher since 1983. I have been playing guitar for close to 40 years now.

My first process is an interview via phone or FaceTime to ask certain questions about the goals and passions of the student about guitar playing in general.
Every student is different in what they want to accomplish, so I create individual plans which typically include helping a student understand chording structures and an adequate fingerboard knowledge on which to build upon.
I also include a time for learning a students favorite song or musical piece to keep them interested while they are working on the more rote aspects of learning guitar.
From brand new beginners to intermediate players who needs some new direction to go in.
Be ready to have fun at working really hard at something. You must have a passion that goes beyond dreaming about doing something which drives you to push through times of discipline and practice.
I am a big Phil Keaggy fan. He is a gifted and special guitarist I've followed over the years. Meeting him was a thrill.
