About Kajiado

I am a senior Human Health, Performance, and Leisure major with a concentration in Sports Medicine, and a Chemistry and Economics double minor at the illustrious Howard University. By May 2021, I will have received my bachelors of science and go on to pursue a dual MD-PhD degree- focusing in Orthopedic Surgery and Genetics Engineering. Since sophomore year of high school, I have taught NYC middle school students as a STEM teacher for two years under the Department of Education; I have been a TA for 9th grade Spanish and 10th grade physical education; Currently, I am a Spanish 1-4, Organic Chemistry 1 and 2, and Economics 1 and 2 tutor at my university. I tutor subjects in Chemistry, Biology, English, Economics, Math, and Spanish; and I am passionate about all of them."The task is not impossible, the doer just needs practice." is the motto I developed for my students because of their self-doubt. I solemnly believe that anyone can be great in any subject if they practice hard and they have confidence in themselves. I became a tutor so I could show my students that they are good, smart, and can accomplish anything as long as they work hard for it. My approach is one of observation and tailored teaching, because everyone learns differently. Also, I make it constructively fun because as a teacher and a student myself, I know it's hard to learn something you do not enjoy.

I love witnessing the moment where everything clicks in my student's mind. After I have explained all there is to explain, and answered any questions they may or may not have and they say, "That makes so much sense now."

I'm a helper and when this happens I know I'm helping for real. School is an important part of students' lives and if I can make it more sensible to them, then it's a win for everyone. I also like hearing that my students did well in their courses or on their tests, it shows them that if they try hard they can do anything and takes their focus away from the difficulty of the task. A person who doesn't see something as hard, gets it done easily.

I had bad teachers in high school and even though I still did well in their classes, the same cannot be said for some of my peers and younger school mates. I would always help the other students to understand topics that were confusing to them, and was often told that I made more sense than their teachers. I love to volunteer, so I volunteered to work as a middle school tutor at an afterschool program where I was hired by the President of the entire Queens GRYC afterschool program himself a few months in. I've been tutoring ever since.

I have taken AP English Literature in High School and Creative Writing as well as Poetry Writing in both high school and college. I was trained in high school as an AP Language and Literature TA and am a self-trained Poetry artist.

I prefer the informal and personable approach when tutoring my students. Getting to know the student as a person, learning their interests, their learning language, and how interactive I need to design my lesson plans. I believe that every student is different and if I make myself approachable and relay information to them in their own language, there is always success. I always create a safe environment for my students, one in which they feel comfortable to ask any work-related questions no matter how silly they think the question may be. Why? Because there is no such thing as a stupid or silly question, if my student is confused they need to be comfortable enough to voice this so we can fix it. Additionally, I ask for their school course material, including but not limited to - assignments, syllabi, their professor's powerpoints, and their weaknesses and strengths.

I was a STEM teacher for the NYCDOE for more than two years. There I taught experimental chemistry and I also tutored middle school math and English. I served as a TA during my high school years for 9th Grade Spanish, English and AP English Language. Currently, I tutor Spanish 1 through 4 at my university as well as Economics 1 and 2. On the side I help students with Organic chemistry, General Biology, and General Chemistry. Hence, I've worked with students from the middle school, high school, and college level.
