About Elizabeth
I love helping others understand anything that I understand. For a LOT of reasons, it's sometimes hard for us humans to learn new things. I know what that feels like, the frustration of feeling like you just can't get it. So I really try to impress upon my students that if a scardy cat like me can learn English grammar or medical terminology, or French, so can they!
I have taught English to college freshman and to international students. I tutored pathophysiology and history in college. Many years later, I taught medical terminology at an adult education school. I have taught nursing courses to young adults. I have even taught English to little French kids!
Seeing someone grow confidence in an area of weakness is its own reward. I have always loved that about teaching. It's the greatest satisfaction for teachers to witness a change in their students, from dreading something to actually enjoying it or at least feeling calmer or more positive about the topic.

When I meet a new student, I need to hear from him or her how they feel about their situation, what they've tried before, if anything, and what they hope to accomplish. If possible, I encourage the student to be as specific as possible about what they most need from me because that is not a given. Sometimes students need mostly encouragement, other times advice or structure, and on rare occasions brutal honesty. I really don't like to assume too much --so I really press the student to be honest about his or her needs and goals, as much as possible.
