About Victoria

I'm a college student who has been in your child's shoes! I was a bilingual child and did not master English until the third grade. Through the help of my amazing teachers and tutors, I have not only mastered the English language but have also developed several communication skills. I believe that I can meet your child on their reading and comprehension level and tailor lesson plans to their needs.

It humbles me and reminds me of the gift of teaching. There is so much depth in the English language that has yet to be explored. I love teaching Literature and Rhetoric & Composition to students because it prepares them for the world of the workforce as well as higher education!

I started teaching when I realized my passion for Argument and Literature. Firstly, I started in my local library where I tutored a younger group of 5-6-year-olds with comprehension and vocabulary. As I began to teach teenagers, I focused on teaching communication skills, argument as well as a deeper analysis of older English texts such as Shakespeare. 



I have tutored children at my local library from ages 5-15. These children are from different ethnicities, reading levels and strengths and weaknesses. I believe in the idea of enhancing the strengths of the student as well as making sure that they are aware of their weaknesses in order to correct and master them.

I often start off by understanding the comprehension and reading skills of the student. Their ability to read and comprehend older English texts will help them in the later future in analysis and argument. Then, I assess their abilities to give clear and concise argumentative skills. If not, then I will strengthen their understanding of Rhetoric and how to use Rhetoric to advance their communication skills. 



I have taught bilingual students, students from various economic/ethnic backgrounds and kids struggling with comprehension. I also have taught students that were proficient in English but wished to deepen their understanding of the English language. 



Always look for a teacher with passion/zeal over technique. Although the technique is important, passion teaches you how to, not only apply the English language, but to fall in love with it as well. 



A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask themselves how willing are they to discipline themselves to read more and study more. They should also be willing to ask teachers what is the best way to apply these skills to everyday life, not just for essays and exams.

I charge $17/hr. As a college student, I believe I offer a special lesson plan for the students I teach. It is not only an English lesson; I want to show students how to form effective communication skills for the later future once they are joining the workforce or pursuing higher education.
