About Anne

I am an experienced tutor and am excited to support your child in their academic pursuits!

I am a pre-college high school senior at Fieldston Upper School.

I have tutored for two years in my high school's writing center, helping students through all stages of writing essays as well as creative pieces. I tutor at my local community center (Goddard Riverside), ages 12-18. I am an assistant teacher with Steps Youth Programs, teaching ballet to kids ages 6-8. I have spent six weeks at Amber Waves Farm, an educational farm in Long Island where I worked with children ages 2-8 teaching about regenerative and organic agriculture in fun and creative ways. I am a member of my high school's Big Sister Mentorship program, in which I am paired with another girl in our middle school and I work to support her in the transition to high school We address gender expectations, self-esteem, and various pressures adolescents confront through middle and high school. I have babysat for five years and for multiple families with children ranging ages 4-10.

I specialize in tutoring English, essay-writing and structure, and creative writing, at elementary through high school levels. I can tutor elementary and middle school math as well as Geometry, Algebra, and Precalculus. I can tutor high school-level biology. I can tutor middle-school level French as will help tutees practice French grammar and speaking-abilities.

I am happy to do a consultation before we decide if it is a good fit. This could entail a conversation about your needs, expectations, and the specifics of which topics we would cover.

Do not hesitate to reach out! Thank you for your time!

I love seeing a student finally understand a topic or be proud of their work. I know it takes a lot of effort to improve and I think it's amazing when a student feels proud of what they've learned or accomplished, especially in a subject they don't generally enjoy.

I tutored for a year at my local community center (Star Learning Center). I tutored multiple students but worked weekly with one in particular. I tutored in all subjects, major assignments, organization and planning, time management, and test preparation.

I also tutored writing, specifically, in my high school for two years. I worked with younger high school students on academic writing assignments, supporting them in their editing, revising, drafting, and brainstorming processes.

I've held multiple mentorship positions in my high school and beyond. I participated in my high school's Big Sister mentorship program in which I was paired with a younger female student to provide academic and emotional support, especially throughout the transition from middle to high school. I worked for a summer as an educational assistant at a farm in Long Island. I taught younger students and families about the farm and facilitated educational activities with them.

I work with their parents and them to discuss their needs and the subjects they want to improve in. I ask them about their history with and attitude towards the subjects they want to work on. Every student learns differently so I like to try out different methods in the beginning to see if the student is a more visual or auditory or experiential learner. I tell the student about my experience in their grade or the subject they're working on to build trust.

I have worked with students of all ages, from doing experiential education with three year-olds to working on a complex History essay with a high school senior. I have worked with students from different education and income backgrounds, from private and public schools. I've worked with students who really love learning and love school and students who would rather do anything else than do their homework.

Ask for writing samples or test scores. Ask for a sample of a study guide or the work to a difficult Biology or Geometry problem. Ask how the teacher usually works with a student on writing an essay from beginning to end.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What specifically do I want to work on? For example, do I want better technical skills when it comes to the essay writing process--like learning how to come up with ideas, draft, and revise? Or do I have a really hard time with finding the motivation to start my work, and I want to learn more about time management and organization so I procrastinate less?

How do I learn best? Do I have a really tough time with memorization but I work great with sports analogies? Am I amazing at processing difficult Biology concepts and working on application problems but I can never seem to effectively make a study guide?

What feedback have I received from previous teachers? Are there patterns I've noticed or similar comments I keep getting? Do my grades in school reflect my true effort, or am I putting in a lot of work but still not meeting my teacher's expectations?
