I love figuring out the strengths, weaknesses and goals of each student, to help them learn exactly what they need most. This can include grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, fluency, or even learning how to think in English!
When I was a college student, I had several friends and classmates from Southeast Asia. I loved helping them with their pronunciation questions and helping them check their grammar in their essays. This inspired me to pursue language teaching and linguistics in graduate school.
I have Master's degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language and in Hispanic Linguistics, plus 30 years of experience as a language teacher.

Our first meeting is an assessment to discover what the student feels a need to focus on, their learning goals, and their strengths and weaknesses. We can generally get started on priority areas in the first meeting and I provide several good practice activities right away. My students end the first session feeling encouraged and with a sense of direction for how to make improvements in the areas of English that are most crucial for their needs.
I have worked with adult students from almost every non-English speaking country in the world, and at all levels of English, from beginner to near-native ability.
Think about what you feel most confident about with English, and what you feel you need the most help with. This information can help a new teacher focus on what your needs are more effectively.
During the pandemic I gave some free English lessons online and enjoyed meeting some new people from several countries. We had a fun conversation class with one student in Poland and the other in Turkey!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should have a clear sense of what their specific goals are. Do they need to improve their English for academic purposes, professional purposes, social purposes (etc.)? This will influence which skills are most important to work on.

It is my pleasure to recommend Laura (The ProfessorCoach) for tutoring English. She is my tutor since two years ago. Laura is such a great teacher in any aspects. She helped me improve my speaking and taught me how to pronounce words correctly just like a native person. Not only she's so professional in her career but also she has a great charecter as a person. She's so humble and patient. She's one of the kindest teacher I've ever had. It is without hesitation that I recommend Laura to you, knowing she will be one of your best tutor ever.
