About Meghan

Hi I'm Meghan, a rising junior in high school with a drive to teach students ages 5-13! I started tutoring this past year, and I grew a strong liking to helping children achieve success by developing their basic skills across all subjects. My strong suits lie in English and history, but I am eager to teach any and everything! I have a 4.3 GPA, I'm in many clubs and I also volunteer in community service regularly. As a student teaching other students, I know the easiest way to get kids to be attentive during lessons while also enjoying learning!

I love hearing about the successes that my students have while working with me. During the school year, I help my students study for tests, and we usually meet the day of in order to reflect on the test and see how the student did. Whenever I see a steady climb in grades of these tests it makes me super happy because I know what I'm doing is working.

My friend started the club at my school called Education For All. I was never officially enrolled in the club, but she reached out to me separately in order to get me involved in tutoring the kids because she knew I would be a great fit for the job!

I am currently enrolled in high school with a 4.2 GPA, after taking all honors classes. This past year I've gotten into tutoring children in the third grade as a community service activity and I love it! I tutor twice weekly for 1 hour each, but I would love to tutor more with my spare time in the future!

About the lesson

I believe that getting to know a student know how they learn is the most important part of tutoring, it leads to the most success and understanding between a tutor and student. Are usually start my sessions by asking the kid about what they want to learn that day so they aren't being forced to do things that they will not find interesting. It's important for the student to have an interest in what they're learning because then you'll be more likely to participate and have fun during our sessions!

In the past I've worked with third graders. Many of my students needed help learning English so I was tasked with doing a bunch of reading and writing with them!

One of my most fond recent events is when I was tutoring a girl and we finished early so she pulled up a drawing video and we decided to draw together. I think it's super important to have a wind down time at the end of tutoring sessions, especially with my younger students. I will often go 5 to 10 minutes over the hour to talk, draw, or do small projects with my students in order to relax and reflect on the days work! This project or drawing will usually relate to the lesson, such as drawing the Statue of Liberty after reading a book about it!
