About Lisa
I have credentials most tutors do not. I am a retired college professor with a decade of tutoring secondary school, college, law, and graduate students. I have a Ph.D., as well as a J.D. in law. I am a published author of both books and academic articles. This training, teaching experience and writing skills make me a highly qualified tutor.
I pride myself on my ablility to teach students how to improve their writing, as well as sharpen analytical skills. I tailor my tutoring style to individual student's needs and learning styles. My students consider me easy-going as well as highly effective. They have all improved in the subjects, standardized test scores and writing ability. A significant number have gone on to Ivy League schools. One student, who struggled most with writing, eventually was selected to go to Governor's School Honors in writing.
I believe my tutoring services also stand out in that I sincerely care about my students and their educational success.
I enjoy every aspect of my work as a tutor. I like getting to know my students and helping them succeed as well as build confidence in their academic ability. I like teaching the content of the subjects I cover but enjoy passing on learning and writing skills to my students. I get excited when they improve and enjoy seeing them also get excited. Overall, I believe strongly in the power of education and have spent most of my life involved in it.
1) Over 20 years of teaching college and working with students one-on-one.
2) Tutoring high school students in subject areas and standardized tests for college.
3) PhD, JD, and BA magna cum laude
4) Published author with proven success in teaching all ages how to improve their writing.

I begin with a conversation to find out what their specific needs are and what learning styles work most effectively for them. I tell them a bit about my educational philosophy, experience, and approaches. Above all, I try to make them feel comfortable with me so they will feel free to ask questions and let me know where they need help. I let them know that I am on their side and am there to help them improve, not judge their skills or ability.
We then set up schedules for meeting and assignments. I try to get them enthusiastic about the process and confident that they can improve their academic success.
I have worked with a wide diversity of students from 13 years old to 45 years old. I have tutored students from many different countries and varying walks of life. I have worked with students who do exceptionally well academically, but want to improve test scores and grades for college admissions. At the same time, I have had a lot of success with students who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and the like. I have worked with students of average ability as well. Older students who have gone back to school have also been part of my clientele. Overall, I have worked with a wide spectrum of types of students and feel comfortable with them all. I do adapt my methods and strategies to their individual needs.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1) What are their goals and objectives for the tutoring experience.
2) What specific areas they need to improve.
4) What learning styles and methods are most effective for them.
