About Carla
Growing up, I always loved school. I was very blessed to have teachers who sparked my interest in learning to the point where I did not like to miss school. I loved reading and writing in school. I come from a family of educators so I always felt as if teaching was my calling and pathway to a meaningful existence. As I was finishing up my courses in college, I began working at the YMCA Preschool as a Preschool Assistant, which furthered my love for teaching even more. Once I graduated college and began teaching in the classroom, I saw a better way that I could help students achieve through becoming an online tutor. I figured I would be able to help more students all over the world to become better readers and spark their love for learning the way my teachers had done for me as a child!
I have personally worked in the school system for 5 years. I have taught kindergarten for 2 years and first grade for 3 years. I received my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education Pre-k- 3rd grade.

My typical process for working with a new student is to first provide the student with an assessment to identify the specific reading skill they need the most help with. Then, I tailor my lessons to target the deficit skill and use resources that will be most beneficial to helping the student master the skill they are struggling with.
As a classroom teacher, I have worked with students that were struggling readers, helping to bring them up to grade level or beyond.
