Annie's diverse experiences in her life and professional career show me a great deal about how she is able to wear many hats – an integral aspect of being flexible in the teaching profession. Part of her role at our school was to serve as a cultural liaison, which greatly helped to broaden our student’s global perspective. In addition to her cultural proficiency, Annie demonstrated the ability to relate and connect with a vast range of age and ability levels. Her versatility in the classroom and her adeptness to learn Korean Sign Language enabled her to communicate with the students very effectively. Due to this special circumstance of being the very first NET working at a special needs school in South Korea the DMOE (Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education) was keen on observing Annie in this role. She was asked to prepare lessons along with her co-teacher 4 different times throughout the year. The DMOE coordinators and I helped Anne and her co-teacher improve on various communication techniques that would support our students learning and growth.I believe that we can gauge an ESL teacher’s success based upon the number of students who expressed their enthusiasm about speaking the language. Furthermore, Annie continually had students dropping by the teacher’s room to practice their English sentences and to ask her meaningful questions. Anybody who witnesses her in the classroom would be impressed by her creative methods of engaging each and every student. She is truly a progressive teacher who is eager to implement and reflect upon what will impact the students in the most meaningful way.
