I meticulously evaluate what the student needs theough a series of drawing exercises and dialog. I might ask for recent work or a test sketch depending on the level. If the student wishes to join an ongoing class I help them catch up. With younger students I encourage free drawing to stimulate the imagination while assigning a specific task that covers class material.
