About Jay
Born in New York City, I received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, and am MFA from the New York Academy of Art.
For the past two years I have been a Teacher's Assistant both at the Art Students League of New York and the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where I have been teaching students ages 7 to 18 and adults.
I also have an established career as an artist, with solo and group exhibitions in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia, as well as auction and private sales.
As an Art Teacher, I believe in fostering a positive and exploratory classroom environment. By presenting objectives through a variety of instructional strategies (lectures, demonstrations, visual aids), I broaden students' understanding of art and art history.
I am committed to teaching students technical methods and techniques while fostering a love and appreciation for the arts as a whole.
I have a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in painting, photography, and printmaking. I graduated in the top 3 of my class.
I studied how to make oil paint from scratch at ASP, one of the oldest art academies in Europe, located in Krakow Poland.
I recieved a Masters in Human Anatomy from the New York Academy of Art, NY NY.

Each student is unique in their skillset and their goals. My initial aim is to get to know the student by asking questions and by observing. During our first lesson I will ask you to draw a simple object(s) from life. I'll make various notations and from there we will begin our conversation of what your short term and long term goals are.
