About Nicholas
Our tutors have direct experience working through the curriculum used by both the Maricopa Community College District and Arizona State University. Since our approach is molded around curriculum, we can guarantee that you will not only improve your understanding of the present material, but also get a leg up on the topics your professor will be covering later in the semester.
Nick’s approach to tutoring is, if a student is not understanding the material, to reframe the material in different ways to help make chemistry more digestible and understandable. Nick understands that chemistry can be hard, he experienced this fact firsthand as he spent countless hours in his professor’s office trying to understand the most basic material. Now, through hard work and commitment, he is in his senior year of his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a 4.0 GPA.
I got started teaching as a job coach for individuals with developmental disabilities at Special Needs Services in Mesa, AZ. During my time there I had the pleasure of developing classes and activities for students with developmental disabilities. I was proud to manage the Adult Treatment Program which instilled in me a permanent love for assisting those with disabilities. I am currently the cofounder of a dance program tailored specifically for developmentally disabled students: (concealed information)

I take a “student first” approach to my tutoring. I like to get to know their aspirations, goals, major, and what they hope to get out of chemistry. Once I know who they are, I get to know what they are struggling with in chemistry. This will tell me what material to focus on, and what strategies to implement. While many tutors focus on the material alone, I like to think of tutoring as the process of clearing roadblocks. I believe that difficulty with chemistry often stems from misunderstandings regarding small concepts instead of a lack of aptitude toward chemistry overall. Once I identify these roadblocks, I explain them in plain English instead of with the typical chemical jargon. By removing these roadblocks, I have found that students rapidly increase their proficiency towards chemistry and begin to excel in their classes.
I have extensive experience working with a diverse student population including first gen, disabled, and adult reentry students. I promise that I can tailor my approach to any student and any background. I believe that everyone is capable of learning chemistry.
