About Alexandria
STEM Angels was a volunteer tutoring group I started in ninth grade. I've had five years of experience tutoring junior high and high school students in math, chemistry, biology, physics, SAT, and ACT. During these five years, I've interacted with a wide range of students, and understand how to teach from a variety of perspectives and straighten out a plethora of confusions.
In high school, I took IB Math HL (higher level), IB Further Math HL, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB/BC, university multivariable calculus, IB Chemistry HL, AP Chemisry, IB HL Biology, AP Biology, IB Physics SL (standard level), and AP Physics C: Mechanics. I received a superscored 36 ACT (35 math, 36 science, 36 reading, 36 English) and a 1530 SAT (780 math, 770 reading).
I am currently a student at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), studying chemistry. At Caltech, I have taken single-variable calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, Newtonian mechanics, electricity and magnetism, freshman biology, freshman chemistry, and graduate-level inorganic chemistry.
I've always loved teaching - even when I was in elementary school, I loved to help my peers with anything that they were struggling with. I love the variety of people I meet through teaching, and watching them gain understanding and appreciation for the subjects I also love. Teaching is one of the greatest ways that I connect with people and give back to the community, and I'm excited to do so with you.
I really started regularly teaching in ninth grade, when I realized that I was really good at figuring out what confused people and really good at explaining that thing in a simple but thorough way. Teaching was something I was just good at, and I deeply enjoyed interacting with and helping people... so that's what I've been doing ever since.
As mentioned in my "About" section, I've tutored students for five years, first with my volunteer tutoring group in high school, then with the Caltech Y Rise Program.

It depends on what the student needs - for example, are they just beginning to study for an exam, have specific questions on homework, simply need general help with a subject, etc.
More specifically: in the case that general help is needed, I'll ask the student what topics in particular confuse them, and attempt to find the commonalities of those topics. In the case that the student is studying for an exam, I'll go over general test-taking strategies and tips (if needed), and then dive deeper into the most important topics for the exam.
I've worked with students ranging from regular high school core to AP and IB HL (higher level), as well as students struggling with language barriers.
Patience, passion, and experience would be the most important things in my mind. You want to look for a teacher who is there because they genuinely want to help you learn.
