About Kim
I ave been teaching high school chemistry for four year. While I was getting my chemistry degree, I was a professor's assistant for four semesters. I truly pride myself in the number of student's "ah-ha!" moments I have been able to witness! There's more than one way to explain chemistry, because so many of the concepts seem abstract to us. Once a student is able to find a new way to think of a topic and grasp an understanding in this subject, they build confidence in themselves! I love to help students in a subject that has gotten a bad reputation for itself.
I really enjoy being able to help students with their confidence. As tests grades and homework grades increase, student's confidence soars and its so heartwarming to see. It shows them that all their hard work and the time they put into it has paid off.
I have always loved teaching and was planning to go to college for chemistry education. In college, I was student teaching at the high school level, while tutoring students and running courses as a teacher's assistant. I landed an intership that turned into a career I didn't know I wanted, but I continued to tutor outside of college to keep up with my desire to teach. During COVID, I switched careers to pursue my passion for teaching.
I started teaching at the college level as an undergraduate student for two semesters. Over the years,. I have taught countless review sessions in groups, one on one tutoring, etc. After leaving the chemical industry, I went back to school for education. I am currently on my fourth year of teaching high school chemistry. I will be graduating with my masters Spring 2024.

If this is a student I will keep long term, I first like to get an idea where they are in their class; what topics have they covered. Based on those topics, what parts did they do well in and what parts did they find challenging? What parts of the course are a challenge: tests, homework, lab, etc? I always like going over old material that they got wrong, especially if its a course where there's a final. Review their thought process and also see what parts they are getting right. Chemistry is a subject that builds on itself; you need to understand the fundamentals to do well in the course and continue on with the later subjects. If there's upcoming tests and homework, I like to start going through the notes/lectures, not just the homework. However, some students just want to go through the homework, which I can understand.
I have worked with all kinds of students! Students who want to be chemistry majors, students who just need to pass the class so they can graduate, students who struggle with math, students who just want to be nurses and can't stand chemistry! The ages range from sophomore in high school to adults.
My advice would be to not be afraid to speak up if you don't understand something. It's okay to ask for it explained in another way! Not everyone's brains work the same way and it's the job of a teacher to work with that. Chemistry is amazing because it's the reason the world works the way it does; but that doesn't mean it's all common knowledge.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Student's should really think through how much effort they are currently putting in and how much more effort they are willing to do. They should also know what's important to them. Hey, some students just want to pass, they just need the grade. As a teacher, of course I want my students to understand and grasp the concepts fully, but I can't expect every person to want to be a chemist!

Perfect! Kim is obviously very knowledgeable in Chemistry, but also is a good person who is patient, caring, and kind. She tries her very best to see why the student doesn’t understand the material and helps the student from time management and study strategies. She truly wants her students to do well and will go out of her way to help the students as much as possible.
Perfect! I got a 50 on my first chemistry test, so I started looking for a tutor. Kim has been the best tutor I could have asked for. After tutoring weekly with Kim, I got a 100 on my next test then a 91 on the following test. She is great at explaining topics and walking me through equations. Kim also answers my questions through the week, so if I get confused on a homework question I can text her for a quick answer. She is very encouraging and supportive, which has made me feel more confident in chemistry. I would highly recommend Kim to anyone looking for a chemistry tutor because she is a great person and a tutor who turned my 50 into a 100 in a few weeks.
Perfect! When I have questions , she’s able to answer them by giving examples that’s easy to understand.

Kim was ready to work with you the moment you had any questions and was willing to talk through everything until you understood it. She would draw visualizations so that you could fully understand what she was talking about. You could also tell that she knew exactly what she was talking about no matter what part of chemistry you brought up. Loved working with her and would 10/10 recommend her!
Kim was one of the best tutors I have had! Kim has helped me build confidence in my knowledge of chemistry and evolve as a student. She is patient, kind, and explains difficult concepts extremely well. I give her my highest recommendation!
She has a deep understanding of the material. She also could explain it and relate it in terms I could understand. She is very respectful and mindful of the level of material you are currently at. I also learned good study and memorization tips and habits from her. She’s also a friendly person to work with!
I was failing my college chemistry course before getting help from Kim. She was able to re-teach me everything the professor was in a language I could understand. She was patient, reliable, and so knowledgeable about all topics. I would highly recommend Kim!
