About Rachel
Teaching has been a part of my life since before my birth; coming from two grandmothers who were teachers and a mother who taught in Jamaica and the United States, I found teaching to be a way to continously learn new information and refine the way I interact with those around me. Succeed in Science stands out because my experiences have taught me to identify effective methods of teaching that works for each individiual students. This enhances my students tutoring experiences and encourages better study habits.
I enjoy learning from my students. As a tutor, I am helping my students to better understand specific topics. This allows me to become more efficient in how I communicate with others and how to breakdown complex topics into more simple terms.
I am a fourth year biology student at North Carolina A&T State University with plans to matriculate into a competitive PhD program in Microbiology. During my collegiate years, I have worked in the University Honors Program and College of Science & Technology as a tutor for high school students (ACT/SAT prep) and for underclassmen biology students in introductory biology and chemistry courses. Even before I went to university, I worked as a music theory teacher for four years at my church, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Typically, I talk with students about their study habits, classroom attendance/participation, and what they feel they are lacking concerning their education: a general misunderstanding of information, inability to connect foundational knowledge to critical thinking questions, exam/quiz prep. Then, I ask about their learning styles (auditory, kinetic, hands-on, etc.) to identify what supplementary materials would best suit their learning styles to enhance their educational and tutoring experiences.
I have worked with students from elementary school all the way to the collegiate level.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would state specifically what you need help with. Do you need help preparing for an exam or quiz or general help in understanding a concept and higher-level thinking? From that point, identify your studying strengths and weaknesses and suggest what you would change to combat your educational concerns.

I have a new love for science now. She even helped me with my math homework.
She helped me make sense of my teacher’s notes by explaining it in a way that made sense to me. Rachel improved my study skills by encouraging me to use Youtube videos and self-identifying other online resources fire outside.
Literally was failing chemistry before working with Rachel. I didn’t even know how to convert from cm to m but with her help a couple times a week, I got it together and got an A in my general education chemistry course. Rachel’s the best!
Rachel was an excellent tutor for my microbiology class! The tutoring session was very nice. I enjoyed all the tips and was able to improve my grade.
Science is my weakest subject but through this I was able to see my grade average rise. I’m glad I was able to participate.

Due to my extensive experience, my pricing falls between $12-$15 per half hour; however, as a student, I understand that finances can be tight, and thus I am willing to discuss pricing.
