About Maddox
I've played competitive baseball my whole life. I lettered 4 years at Stewart's Creek High School in Smyrna, TN. Then I went on to play at Vol State in Gallatin, TN. I pitched and played infield in both highschool and college. I help coach at my old high school and a 15u summer team. I have given lessons for 2 years now. I think I'm different than other instructors because I've been through many ups and downs throughout my career and I am able to take what I learned from the tough spots in my career to help others that are currently having the same struggles I've had.
With 16 years of playing experience I know a lot about the game and how tough it can be. I not only can help an athlete by changing mechanics, but also the athletes mindset and approach. I love seeing an athlete succeed and gaining the trust of athletes. Being able to pass on the knowledge that I have learned is what drives me to do what I do.
After I finished playing my high school coach asked me to come help him, and a local travel ball organization asked me to coach one of their teams. I also have a younger brother who I work with and that's what made me fall in love with helping athletes.
I have 16 years of playing experience all the way up to the college level. I currently coach 2 teams of high school age players, and I have given lessons in the past 2 years since I stopped playing. I'm also in college pursuing a degree in sports management.

The first thing I usually do is watch a player hit and ask them how they've been taught in the past. I believe hitters and pitchers can't all be the same. Different players are different sizes with different playing styles.
Once I find out what the player is comfortable with, along with theyre strengths and weaknesses, I will start to make adjustments I think will help the player. If my suggestion doesn't work we will keep trying until we find something that does work.
I'm also a huge believer in the mental side of the game. It is a vital part that many players struggle with. This can make or break a player with their confidence. My goal is to have the athlete approach every game like it's opening day and be able to enjoy the game.
I've worked with athletes from 10 years old to college athletes.
If your coach tells you there is only one way to do something they're wrong. Find what works for YOU! If they use the same method or program for every student they are being lazy.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How can you help me mechanically?
How can you help me mentally?
And never be scared to ask WHY!!! If you don't understand why your coach is making you do something just ask! It's a lot easier to believe in what you're doing if you know why you are doing it.

I usually charge 30 dollars for 30 minute lessons. The time cutoff is not set in stone. I will work with the athlete until they are confident in their abilities. The last thing I want is for an athlete to be confused, or doubting themselves, when they finish a lesson with me.
