About Matthew
I believe in a personalized tutoring experience that works to help students identify their strengths and lean on those strengths to work through areas of growth. Over the past five years, I have helped students across the country increase their grades multiple letter grades, gain 100+ points on the SAT, and earn 4s and 5s on AP exams.
I love when students have those breakthrough moments - when all of their hard work and dedication finally comes together and they begin to understand and feel confident about their studies.
I started tutoring for volunteering in high school and was offered by the lead tutor there, who was a retired teacher, to begin paid tutoring.
I am a 2020 graduate of Brandeis University with majors in Biology & Health: Science, Society, and Policy, magna cum laude. I have been a private tutor for five years in both Texas and Massachusetts.

The first session is a "getting to know you" type session. I'll ask a few questions to get the background and then we'll get started. During that first session, I'll try a few different approaches to problems to see what works for each student and what isn't resonating as much. At the second session, we'll begin to customize the style to meet the approaches that work and start laying out a plan.
I have worked with middle and high school students along with students at the college level.
There's something magical about the second and third sessions. The first session is always going to feel a little generic, but a good tutor will begin customizing your sessions by the second and third sessions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about not only their immediate concerns, but if there are previous gaps we may need to explore. For example, if you're getting tutoring for Calculus but had some issues with Pre-Calculus, we may want to dive into that a little first to fill in those gaps.
