About Laura
I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Women's Studies, and a Master's degree in Secondary Math Education. I taught high school math for 15 years (including Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, and Statistics) and have worked in academic support at the college level for 4 years. I believe that all students are capable of learning math (including those who believe they are just not a "math person"). I have successfully taught students with math trauma and neurodivergent students. Communication, compassion, and humanity are at the heart of math education.

My goal as a tutor is to meet students where they are and build confidence through a variety of approaches. I typically begin by asking students what questions they have and tailoring instruction to the student's needs. I encourage students to build conceptual understanding rather than just how to get the answer. Visual, kinesthetic, and verbal approaches are incorporated whenever possible.
