About Chris
I am an experienced Biology instructor with a Ph.D. in Genetics, a Master’s in Molecular Genetics, and over a decade of laboratory research and teaching at the high school and college levels. My tutoring approach is flexible and student-focused, designed to meet each student’s needs while fostering confidence and understanding. I believe learning is most effective when it’s engaging, relatable, and enjoyable, so I bring humor, stories, and real-world examples to every lesson. I aim to create a supportive environment where students of any age feel comfortable asking questions, mastering difficult concepts, and developing strong study skills.

I take a flexible, student-focused approach, tailoring each lesson to your needs. We'll review class notes, homework, or labs, prepare for quizzes and exams, or break down difficult topics so they become clear and manageable. We can also cover general study skills to help you maximize learning both in class and at home. My goal is not only to help you succeed academically, but also to build your confidence and deepen your understanding, so you feel prepared and capable in every lesson.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I have known Chris for over 30 years. His interest in Science has been a constant. As a teacher, his passion shines through with his excitement for the discipline and his easy to understand explanations. As a fellow educator, I would highly recommend working with Chris.
It is a pleasure to recommend Chris Newton to any student looking for a tutor. Whether you are struggling with the basics or diving into advanced topics, Chris is the kind of educator who makes the "impossible" feel manageable. I met Chris when he began teaching where I was employed. Chris became an invaluable mentor to me even though I had already been teaching for more than 15 years. Chris has a way of taking an intimidating topic and breaking it down. He uses excellent visual aids and structured worksheets that keep you focused and ensure the information sticks. Chris is always striving in his work. He constantly wants to do more for his students, so they can grasp content. One shared experience we had was when he asked for my help in creating an engaging activity for his students using some of what I teach to my forensics students. He and I had a blast playing around with model cars and paint, which we used to create tire track evidence for his class to analyze. Chris always wants to do more for his students and knows the value of using real-world logic. If you want a tutor who is as invested in your success as you are, Chris is your person. He is professional, insightful, and incredibly grounded
I have known Chris for many years both as a colleague and friend. His knowledge of biology is second to none, and he keeps abreast of the latest scientific advances in the field through his commitment to lifelong learning. We would often discuss teaching methods that enable his students to come to successful understanding of some of the more complex aspects of the subject matter. He challenges them, not overwhelming them, through critical thinking and problem based teaching strategies. An engaging and effective teacher.
