About Claire
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a teacher of chemistry since 2001, head of chemistry since 2003 and assistant head of science since 2012. I have extensive knowledge of OCR A, OCR B and AQA A-level specifications in chemistry and AQA, OCR and Edexcel GCSE specifications in chemistry, biology and physics. I currently teach AQA GCSE in biology, chemistry and physics along with AQA GCSE Double science. I have also been working with Cambridge University admissions office and Chemistry department to increase applicant success, working with students to improve their UCAS applications and personal statements.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current CRB as I am a full time teacher in Essex.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach AQA GCSE chemistry, GCSE Triology combined science (biology, chemistry and physics). I also teach A-level Chemistry OCR (Chemistry A). I also have extensive experience in AQA and OCR (Chemistry A and B) A-level and OCR and EdExcel GCSE sciences. Through my tutoring over the years. I have tutored students in all of these previously, with great levels of success. I have worked with with students to consolidate grades and have taken students with lower grades, including D and U, at the end of year 12 and helped them to achieve As.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an Masters in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from Exeter University and a PGCE in Secondary Science from the University of Southampton.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
GCSE sciences, AS and A level Chemistry and International Baccalaureate
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to tutor Zoom or Google meet for students who prefer using these technologies and I am equipped to allow easy demonstration of workings and ideas.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 per hour for A-level and £35 per hour for GCSE. For tutoring at a student's own home I do charge for travel depending on distance/time taken. I have tutored 2 students simultaneously and do offer a discount for this. Discounts are available for block bookings too.
- When are you available?
I am available from 4.30-9pm most evenings and Sunday afterrnons from 1 until 5. During school holidays I am available from 8am - 8pm and can offer multiple sessions as appropriate. I have availability during the Easter holidays and May half term specifically for examination preparation.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
For the last 24 years I have prinarily taught only GCSE and A-level students as part of my job and therefore have extensive experience in preparing students for these examinations.
