About Afsana

Hi there! I’m Afsana, a science and chemistry educator currently pursuing my Master’s degree at the University of Bologna.

Let’s be completely honest for a second: chemistry, physics, and math have a bit of a reputation for making people question their life choices. Staring at an impossible reaction mechanism or a brutal physics problem at 11 PM can make anyone feel like pulling their hair out. If that sounds familiar, take a breath—you’re definitely not alone, and you’re in safe hands.

I am definitely not the kind of teacher who sits back with a serious face and judges you for getting something wrong. There are genuinely zero "silly questions" in my classes. If we have to revisit how moles work five times until it finally clicks, that’s exactly what we will do. Every mistake is just useful data showing us what to tackle next, and I firmly believe that with the right breakdown, anyone can master these subjects.

Over the past 5+ years, I’ve taught full-time inside an international British school classroom and mentored wonderful students from all across the globe—from the US and Canada to Asia, Italy, and beyond. I’ve helped students navigate the high-stress worlds of IGCSEs, A-Levels, IB DP, and competitive entrance exams like the IMAT. Along the way, I’ve learned that the secret to top grades isn't mindless memorization; it's simply breaking scary, abstract concepts down into simple, intuitive logic that actually makes sense.

My goal as your tutor is simple: to make sure you never feel overwhelmed, to give you the exact tools examiners look for, and above all, to show you that you are capable of achieving far more than you think.

Whether you need to rebuild your basics from scratch or you’re aiming to turn a good grade into an A*/7, we’ll take it one clear step at a time—with plenty of patience, practical tricks, and zero judgment along the way.

My Teaching Philosophy & Approach
I genuinely believe that subjects like chemistry, physics, and math aren’t about memorizing dry formulas—they’re about understanding how things work around us and building genuine confidence. In my lessons, I avoid one-way lectures. Instead, I break complex topics down into simple, relatable ideas using visual diagrams, everyday analogies, and interactive whiteboards. I love asking guided questions that help students arrive at the answers themselves; seeing that "aha!" moment when a tough concept finally clicks is the most rewarding part of teaching for me.

How a Typical 60-Minute Lesson Looks

Catch-up & Review (5–10 mins): We check in on how school is going, review the main points from our last session, and clear up any tricky questions from homework.

Exploring the Core Concept (20–25 mins): We dive into the new topic step-by-step, connecting theory with practical examples so you really understand the "why" behind every step.

Hands-on Exam Practice (20 mins): We work through real past-paper questions together (IB, IGCSE, A-Level, or IMAT). I walk you through how examiners think, how to break down complex prompts, and how to structure answers to secure full marks.

Wrap-up & Next Steps (5 mins): We recap what we mastered, identify what to practice before the next session, and make sure you feel completely comfortable moving forward.

What Sets My Lessons Apart

Real Global Experience: Over the past 5+ years, I’ve taught full-time in an accredited British international school classroom and tutored students one-on-one across the US, Canada, Asia, and Europe (including right here in Italy).

Examiner Insight & Marking Schemes: Because I work directly with British and IB curricula, I know the exact phrasing and technical keywords examiners look for—and the small mistakes that usually cost marks.

A Supportive, Low-Pressure Space: Asking questions should never feel stressful. I adjust my pacing to each student's personal learning style, making sure everyone feels heard, encouraged, and motivated.

Who I Work With

Middle & High School Students: Anyone tackling British, American, or international programs (Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE/GCSE, A-Level, IB DP Chemistry, Physics, and Math).

University Applicants: Students preparing for competitive English-medium admissions tests like the IMAT (medicine) or TOLC exams.

Anyone Needing a Confidence Boost: If STEM subjects currently feel overwhelming or frustrating, we take things back to the basics and rebuild your foundations step-by-step.

High Achievers: Students aiming to push their grades from good to exceptional (turning a 5 or 6 into a 7 in IB, or securing an A* in IGCSE/A-Level).
