I tutor because I enjoy it, and my numbers are kept low to ensure I provide an undiluted service. Feedback is overwhelmingly positive and word-of-mouth referrals strong.
Two decades' tutoring experience, PhD Physics (Nottingham), Chartered Physicist.
My first tuition experience was "accidental" when I was an A-Level student (in 1998) who gave family friends some help with GCSE maths. They went from D grades in mocks to achieving A grades, and I enjoyed helping them. I have tutored a few hours a week ever since! My syllabus knowledge has stayed fresh whilst my skills as a tutor have grown and developed.
As well as tutoring essential material, I will give guidance on exam technique (often overlooked) and can help students to understand and work through coursework.
I will consider any/all tuition needs and do my very best to help anyone who needs support with their learning. I do have a preference for longer-term tutees - continuity works well.
I can also help candidates prepare for GAMSAT exams and pilot aptitude tests.
Over the years I have worked with a wide variety of tutees, with all sorts of thinking styles, personalities, backgrounds and educational needs. I enjoy working with all people, including those who need additional patience.
I don't have set lesson plans or rigid ways of teaching a particular topic - I adapt to each person individually. It's more effective and it keeps things fresh.

Adaptability and flexibility are essential to giving the best possible support. I treat each tutee as an individual, take time to work out how they think about things, and do my best to engage them. Many tutees think they "can't do" Maths or Physics whereas they've actually disengaged from lessons (often due to external factors). If I can re-engage them, that's a big step forwards.

Chris tutored my dyslexic son in A level Physics during Year 13. My son needed extra support that dyslexic students don't get at school. Chris was patient, thorough and very supportive. He was fully aware of the current syllabus and explained things very clearly. They worked through papers and questions together, discussing everything as they went along. This was backed up with work that my son could do himself, which Chris marked with him during the following session. I thoroughly recommend Chris.
Christopher tutored our son Matthew in Physics for 1 year and prepared him for his A level physics. We were very happy with his tutoring and my son gained a lot of practice in the subject - Christopher is fantastic, he was always punctual and he is able to explain difficult physics concepts in really simple ways that boosted my son's confidence in the subject. He helped him also with technique in answering exam questions properly which was really helpful.
