About Vale

I'm a product designer, UX researcher, and design educator based in Berlin. Over the past 15 years, I've worked across industries including fintech, e-commerce, SaaS, mobility, and healthcare, helping companies like Contentful, Zalando, and various startups create user-centered products and services. Currently, I lead a product design team at saas.group, where I manage senior designers and developed the company's design career framework. Before that, I spent years as a freelance UX designer and researcher, which taught me to adapt quickly, work autonomously, and deliver results in different contexts. My background: I studied Communication Design in Milan with an Erasmus in Interaction Design in Berlin, then specialized in Service Design, VUI and Conversational Design, and completed a Mini MBA in Business Design. Most recently, I completed a specialization in Coaching Skills for Managers at UC Davis and a Masterclass in Sustainable Design. I've taught UX design at CareerFoundry, Springboard, and ReDI School of Digital Integration, mentoring hundreds of students from diverse backgrounds. I've also evaluated portfolios and interviewed design candidates, giving me insight into what makes designers successful in their careers. What drives me: I'm passionate about inclusive, ethical, and sustainable design. I founded Better Standards Club, a project promoting these practices, and co-authored an innovation playbook for tech companies creating a more equitable world. Design isn't just about making things look good – it's about solving real problems for real people, while considering the impact of our work on society and the environment. Why I teach: Teaching allows me to share what I've learned, support others on their journey, and stay connected to the challenges designers face at different career stages. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up, I'm here to help you grow with practical guidance and dedicated support.

My teaching is hands-on, collaborative, and focused on real-world application. Whether you're building your first portfolio, transitioning into UX, or looking to level up your research and design skills, I tailor each session to your specific goals and challenges. What to expect: - Practical, project-based learning. We work on your actual work projects, portfolio pieces, or case studies. You'll leave each session with something you can immediately use or showcase. - Research & design methods that work. Learn qualitative and quantitative research techniques, from conducting user interviews to analyzing data. I'll show you how to run design discovery, validate ideas, and make decisions backed by insights. - Portfolio & career guidance. Get honest feedback on your portfolio, learn how to present your work effectively, and understand what hiring managers look for. I've been on both sides, as a candidate and as someone who's hired and evaluated designers. - Strategic thinking. Beyond making things look good, learn to frame problems, collaborate with product managers and engineers, and advocate for user-centered design in cross-functional teams. - Inclusive design practices. Integrate accessibility, ethics, and inclusivity into your design process from the start, not as an afterthought. How we work together: Each session starts with understanding where you are and what you need. We might review your work, practice a specific skill, prepare for interviews, or strategize your next career move. I provide direct, constructive feedback and share frameworks and methods I've developed over 15 years working across industries. Sessions are flexible, online or in-person in Berlin. I speak English and Italian fluently, and German at B2 level. This is for you if you're: - A design student or recent graduate building your portfolio and preparing for your first UX role - A career-switcher learning UX design and research fundamentals - A junior to mid-level designer wanting to grow your skills and advance your career - Someone preparing for design interviews or seeking honest portfolio feedback - A professional looking to learn inclusive and ethical design practices - Anyone seeking clarity on their career direction and values
