About Yas
Hi, I'm Yas! I'm a Brooklyn-based, London-raised alternative folk-pop singer-songwriter and producer.
Originally trained as a classical pianist and jazz saxophonist, I started writing songs at 14 years old. I later moved to New York to earn my BFA in Recorded Music at NYU Tisch's Clive Davis Institute, where I graduated magna cum laude.While at NYU, I studied songwriting, production, performance, studio engineering, and music business, and dedicated myself to crafting songs that detail the intricacies of every-day life with honesty and simplicity.
I have worked with a range of students across different age-groups, from elementary school, to middle school and high school. I welcome working with college students and adults as well. I enjoy the process of teaching students with different goals and imaginations.
Lessons with me will be engaging, collaborative, and hands-on, with a focus on learning to achieve your individual goals and giving you the tools to succeed and be confident in your musical endeavours. When not making music, I love playing soccer and supporting my favorite team (Manchester United) as well as trying out new food! I have over six years of music production and songwriting experience, and have taken classes with the likes of Grammy Award-winner Bob Power and John Legend-cowriter Dave Tozer.
In our lessons, we’ll take a personalized approach to your learning based on what you want to achieve. Want to just record your own tracks? We won’t overcomplicate it, starting with the basics of how to use a DAW like Logic or Ableton. Want to learn how to mix? We’ll delve into plug-ins, busses, signal flow, reverb, delay and much more.
Songwriting is my bread and butter, and I'll teach you different song structures, melodic and harmonic tricks, as well as how to show and not tell in your lyrics.
As somebody who was once lost in the songwriting and music production world, I understand how it can feel daunting, so we’ll take a hands-on, step-by-step approach, working on skills and projects to build your confidence.
