About Jamie J
Hi! I’m a passionate and fully qualified music educator with a BA (Hons) in Music from Edinburgh Napier University and a PGDE in Music Education. I’ve taught music in both classroom and private settings, working with students of all ages and levels—from complete beginners to advanced performers preparing for exams, auditions, or simply looking to sharpen their skills. With years of experience as a vocal coach, piano tutor, and theory teacher, I bring a flexible and supportive approach to every lesson. I believe that learning music should be challenging but also creative, collaborative, and, most importantly, enjoyable. Whether you're pursuing classical voice, pop vocals, musical theatre, or just want to improve your sight-reading and musicianship, I’ll help you build strong technical foundations while nurturing your unique sound and musical identity. Whether you're dreaming of belting out your favourite musical theatre number, nailing that Grade 5 piano exam, or just want to finally understand what a diminished seventh chord actually is—I’ve got you covered. My teaching style is friendly, flexible, and all about you. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; I tailor every lesson to your personal goals, whether you're a total beginner or an advanced student preparing for conservatoire auditions. Lessons typically run for 30 to 60 minutes, and can be weekly or as-needed, depending on your schedule. I hold a BA (Hons) in Music from Edinburgh Napier University, and a PGDE in Music Education, and have experience teaching in both mainstream schools and private tuition settings. I specialise in vocal training across genres (Classical, Pop, Rock, and Musical Theatre), beginner to advanced piano (up to ABRSM Grade 8), and music theory for all levels. My sessions are structured but never stiff—expect a mix of technique work, creative exploration, a dash of music history (only the fun bits), and above all, a focus on building your confidence and love for music. I teach all ages, from wide-eyed five-year-olds to adults rediscovering music after decades away. It's never too late to start! So whether you're preparing for exams, auditions, or just want to sing in the shower without fear, you're in the right place.
