About Joseph
Hello! My name is Joseph Li, a Canadian secondary school student who is passionate about math, especially in its competitive aspect! I have participated in many math contests and have won multiple awards (you can see a list below). I aspire to help younger students understand and master the concepts they learn at school. Additionally, I also want them to understand in order to apply them to questions they have never seen before. With this new approach of learning mathematics, students will be opened to a broader view of the subject, helping them to breeze through curriculum material and become better problem solvers!
Some notable math contest achievements include:
CEMC Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest (CIMC) top 25% placement
CEMC Cayley top 25% placement
CEMC Galois honour roll achievement
CEMC Euclid top 25% placement
*top 25% refers to the top quartile of all participants worldwide.

The philosophy I hold to heart is that math is learnt best is by understanding, not by merely memorizing. Not only do I aspire to help younger students know and master the concepts they learn at school, I also want them to develop keen problem solving skills so as to help them solve problems that are not just tailor-made for that particular formula, theorem, etc. There is no need to go too far, but I do want students to view mathematics not as a bag of tricks but something they can apply in problems they may not know how to do.
Though I am in high school, I believe that to be a strength as younger students have an easier time bonding with tutors with less of an age gap. The lessons are for any students in elementary school (up to Grade 8), but I can teach higher grades depending on what they need help with. A typical lesson will run for around an hour and a half at any convenient time interval the student chooses. I will provide them with a package with notes regarding the topic and at the end some practice problems as homework. This is done to enhance the student's learning and to keep it fresh for the next lesson.
